People asked me this question often "What makes life meaningful to you?"
Most discussions about meaning in life begin with happiness, success, purpose, family, or religion. While all of these can be meaningful, I have increasingly come to see life itself as an adventure.
An adventure is not meaningful because you know exactly where it will lead. Quite the opposite. An adventure is meaningful because you do not know what lies around the next corner. It is full of surprises, discoveries, setbacks, questions, and unexpected encounters. The uncertainty is not a flaw it is what makes the journey worth taking.
Perhaps this is why I have always been drawn to learning. Whenever I encounter an unfamiliar idea, a historical puzzle, a philosophical question, or a different way of understanding the world, I feel compelled to investigate further. The search for understanding is often more rewarding than finding a final answer. Every answer seems to reveal another question waiting to be explored.
This perspective has also shaped how I think about identity. Rather than seeing identity as a fixed destination, I increasingly see it as part of the adventure itself. As we grow, our experiences change us. We encounter new ideas, challenge old assumptions, and discover aspects of ourselves that we never noticed before.
The person we become at forty may understand the world very differently from the person we were at twenty. Viewing life as an adventure does not mean wandering aimlessly. Every adventure has themes that give it direction: curiosity, relationships, creativity, service, or the pursuit of wisdom. For me, curiosity has always been central.
It is curiosity that leads me to philosophy, Humanism, history, and the endless questions surrounding culture and identity.
Meaning is not something waiting to be found at the end of the road because meaning emerges from the journey itself, from our willingness to remain curious, to keep asking questions, and to continue exploring the world with a sense of wonder.
After all, every adventure begins with a question.
